In my practice I frequently encounter men and women who have accomplished much but seem to have lost the capacity to touch the joy in their lives. The fruits of their hard-earned labor now taste bitter in their mouths.
When I ask “What brings you joy?” they respond, “I don’t know anymore. I’ve lost touch with who I am, with what I want out of my life.”
It’s not uncommon to experience such feelings from time to time. When they persist, however, perhaps it’s time to sit down and examine our lives to determine what we are overlooking in our quest for security, material gain and outward recognition.
We journey through this life but once and sages from diverse spiritual traditions have urged us to stop and enjoy the process as much as the anticipated rewards we seek in our search for happiness.
What brings you joy? Open yourself and see what happens!
