Yesterday I talked about the difference between hunting for jobs in Pittsburgh and farming relationships with people who can open job doorways for you in Pittsburgh. The difference relates both to the mindset of the job seeker and to the effectiveness that job seeker will have in finding the right job.
“Hunting” has a grasping quality to it. (No comments, please; I have nothing against hunters! I’m talking about the state of mind of the job seeker.) When in hunting mode, we aggressively seek to find our quarry and either capture or kill it.) Farming utilizes a much different quality. We are creating relationships that will take root and bear fruit. Hunting involves taking, farming involves a two way dynamic that creates benefits for both parties in a relationship. Tomorrow I will tell you more about farming relationships.
