Mary Oliver said it best: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
As I look back on my life, I see I have been continually searching for an answer to that very question. I just didn’t know it. The journey has been filled with joy and sadness, accomplishment and failure, chaos and quietude. It’s a journey that will only end when I take my last breath on this planet.
In 1999, after almost 30 years as a successful fundraiser for nonprofit organizations, I left the field without a game plan for my life and career. I was blessed to find three mentors with whom I studied and trained under. (Thanks, Fern, Diane, and Greg!) I received certifications as a life and career coach, a Zen chaplain, and a Constructive Living instructor.
In 2000 I established Future Design Studio, Inc., offering holistic life and career planning to those wrestling with the challenges and opportunities of mid-life and beyond. I call my coaching model Life-Work Discovery whereby my clients define and create vivid mental images of their desired lives and careers, work through their fears and resistance, and implement an action plan to turn their vision into reality.
Our living contains both joy and sorrow. We celebrate births, family gatherings, and weddings. We bear witness to the sickness, aging and deaths of our loved ones.
As a chaplain I offer my services at weddings and funerals. For weddings you may choose one ceremony from the many contained in Rev. Carolyn Carpenter’s marvelous Sunflower Weddings. Or you could create one of your own. I have married Jews, Christians and Buddhists.
